The Dentist for Special Needs Children in Charlotte

Dr. Mujica earned her Doctor of Dental Medicine Degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine and completed the Pediatric Dental Residency program at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry, where she also earned a Master of Science Degree in Dentistry. Her training, experience and treatment techniques enable her to deal with children of all ages and degrees of development. In fact, she opened All Kids Pediatric Dentistry in Charlotte with the goal of helping all children have the healthy and beautiful smiles they deserve.

Special Needs Dentistry in Charlotte

In keeping with the recommendation of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, Dr. Mujica would like parents to schedule an initial visit for children when they are six months old, or when that first tooth starts to erupt. We understand that this may seem a bit young for your infant to come to the dentist. However, this appointment allows Dr. Mujica to examine the development of your child’s teeth and bite as well as their facial structure.

After this initial visit, regular dental checkups for special needs children should be scheduled every six months, which is the same frequency that we recommend for all of our pediatric dental patients. At these appointments, one of our gentle hygienists will clean your child’s teeth and take digital x-rays when necessary. Dr. Mujica will examine each tooth for signs of a cavity; she will assess the condition of their gums; and recommend fluoride treatments or dental sealants to help protect teeth against decay.

We know that any dental treatment has the potential to be unsettling or difficult for a child with special needs. Therefore, we can work with your child’s primary physician in order to provide sedation dentistry that is safe and appropriate for your son or daughter.
